We were honoured to host Professor Andrea Musacchio, a leading authority in the field of cell division and the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC), at ShanghaiTech University. Professor Musacchio is the Director of the Department of Mechanistic Cell Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany. His pioneering research has significantly advanced our understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing mitosis, particularly the SAC, which ensures accurate chromosome segregation during cell division.
During his visit, Professor Musacchio delivered an insightful lecture on the latest developments in SAC research, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with our academic community. His talk provided valuable perspectives on the intricate processes of kinetochore function and checkpoint signaling, highlighting the importance of these mechanisms in maintaining genomic stability.
Following the lecture, our lab members had the opportunity to engage in a stimulating discussion with Professor Musacchio, presenting our recent findings on the role of human CDK4/6 in SAC regulation. He expressed keen interest in our work and generously offered to support our research by providing essential reagents.
We are grateful for Professor Musacchio’s visit and his willingness to collaborate, which undoubtedly enriches our ongoing efforts to unravel the complexities of cell cycle regulation.
