Mitotic signalling in progenitor cells: Integrating cell division with cell specification
Torcato Martins & Yuu Kimata https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ceb.2025.102542
This mini-review explores how cell cycle regulators (CCRs)—such as CDKs, Plk1, Aurora kinases, and APC/C—not only drive mitosis but also integrate cell division with fate decisions. We highlight emerging roles of CCRs in asymmetric cell division, epigenetic regulation, and specialised cell cycle variants in progenitor cells.
This work was co-led with Dr Torcato Martins, formerly a postdoc in Kimata’s lab at Cambridge University and now an independent group leader at iBiMED, University of Aveiro in Portugal. His expertise in Drosophila genetics and mitotic signalling was central to shaping the concepts behind this piece.
